When I first started painting food on white backgrounds, I remember telling people: I want to make paintings that play off people’s obsession with certain foods/objects. The paintings won’t be about anything EXCEPT for the relationship between viewer and artwork. I want to take hyperrealism to new heights, and I want to do it my way – by juxtaposing contemporary aesthetics with the traditional techniques I grew up learning.
I got a lot of “oh sounds cool!” but I could tell that no one really appreciated by vision. Honestly, who could blame them? As my grandfather might have said, “You’re going to paint a giant hot dog and put it on the internet?” – YES, that was the plan. But look how thing turned out! Basically, I ditched the assumption that selling a giant hot dog painting is weird, and I replaced it with a new assumption that selling a giant hot dog painting is COOL, and people love cool things.
We ship unframed work internationally. All prints are made to order, one by one. It usually takes 2-3 weeks for your order to be completed before shipping. Since all of the artwork is prepared by hand, one by one, buyers generally don't mind waiting for a piece that has been carefully and specifically made for them. Especially these days, looking forward to something like that can be super exciting!
